A Volcano Could Erupt in Iceland any Minute

Iceland is one of the most volcanic countries in the world. Since the island is made of cooled magma from past eruptions, plate motion in this country is expanding it. One day, Iceland may be twice it’s size. In 2019, a massive volcanic eruption struck Iceland.

Earthquakes are very common in this country as well. Iceland has 30 volcanic systems and over 600 hot springs. Also located on two plates, Iceland faces lots of geological changes each decade. Recently many earthquakes, small or big, have occurred in the past week.

A 4.0 earthquake and a 5.7 have occurred in the last few hours. Near the capital city, the volcano is being hit by these earthquakes. Any second now, the volcano could erupt. The chance is very high. The volcano is in the orange range, which means if it gets to red, the volcano will erupt.

No other countries will be effected by this eruption. The impact on Iceland might be strong, but death rate and injuries might be lower than we think. If this erupts, we will cover it soon. For now, Iceland could be ready for an eruption.

  1. More evidence for this eruption is that in the past week, Iceland has had over 17,000 earthquakes.
